Field School: Agriculture Planning

What Will You Learn?

Students will learn one of the most commonly practiced skills by Agrologists - land capability assessment. Land capability assessments are a permitting requirement for nearly all works occurring within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR). These assessments determine the capability of the land to produce agricultural goods based on the soil and terrain characteristics of the land, as well as set a baseline for any restoration that may be required when a project is completed.

About the Instructor.

Megan Ludwig -

“I am a Water Resources Scientist with Associated Environmental. I specialize in water quality and nutrient management. A large part of my job is working with farmers who are looking to improve their land and lessen their impact on nearby waterways. This sort of work requires me to work closely with the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) and all the regulatory requirements they set forth for work in agricultural landis in BC”.

Additional Information.

There will be some walking and digging as part of the field day. Please wear appropriate clothing that you are able to get dirty. Accommodations can be made ahead of time for any students that may have mobility issues.

Career and Networking Night

  • Capri Mall, 1835 Gordon Dr Lower Level, Kelowna, BC V1Y 3H4 (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The Environmental Chemistry Course Union (ECCU) is presenting, for its Second year, its guest speaker Q&A event. We are inviting different environmental and chemistry related companies/professionals to UBCO to understand how they contribute towards various environmental branches. One of the main goals of this event is to show students how their degree can lead to many different careers and opportunities. The ECCU would like this event to highlight how diverse environmental work can be. Students will gain knowledge about crucial skills and traits required to find the right career and to succeed in the workplace - things that aren’t necessarily taught in their university classes.

Speaker guests will each present a short talk explaining their careers and the routes that they took to get there, followed by an open Q&A period. At the end, we will cater snacks and beverages, allowing students to network and engage personally with the representatives.

- The event is free to attend for all UBCO students and will take place on February 1st , 2023, in the ART building room 114 at 6:30pm-8:30pm.
